Our Northern Virginia students and families are going through challenging times as a result of the current coronavirus pandemic. Fortunately, the PTA at all levels – National PTA, Virginia PTA, NOVA District PTA, and your council and local PTAs/PTSAs continue to accomplish the PTA mission – To make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.
The National PTA has established a webpage with various resources to help students and families address various issues and challenges, including distanced learning resources and mental health resources – https://www.pta.org/home/family-resources/coronavirus-information. With generous support from TikTok, there are also over $1 million in grant opportunities for over 150 local and District/Council/Region PTAs across the country to help them meet their most pressing needs during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Virginia PTA is participating in the Governor’s Education Work Group to help guide the process for the safe and equitable reopening of schools throughout the Commonwealth. The Virginia PTA is also providing a robust summer learning training schedule for PTA/PTSA leaders and members to help them be more effective during these challenging times. Here are additional resources at the state level as compiled by the Virginia PTA – https://www.vapta.org/families/covid-19.
